Consultant for St. Francis de Sales NHL Nomination

The Michigan State Historic Preservation Office is seeking a consultant to research and write a National Historic Landmark (NHL) nomination for the St. Francis de Sales Church in Norton Shores (Muskegon), Michigan designed by Marcel Breuer and Herbert Beckhard in 1964. This nomination is being done as part of the larger Michigan Modern project to document the state's Modern resources for the period 1940-1970. For more information see www.michiganmodern.org.

The consultant will conduct primary and secondary research and write a historic context that demonstrates the national significance of the church within the body of Marcel Breuer's work; write a NHL nomination for St. Francis de Sales Church; conduct a field survey, integrity assessment and photo-document the church and create a site map; prepare a Powerpoint presentation and present it to the NHL Committee in Washington, DC.

Potential bidders must meet the NPS 36 CFR 61 professional qualifications for historian or architectural historian; have experience writing successful NHL and/or National Register nominations; have experience in researching and documenting Mid-Century Modern resources; have experience writinghistoric context narratives and assessing historic resource integrity using the National Register criteria.
