The Preservation Society of Charleston is pleased to announce the Sallie E. Simons Scholarship to attend the annual Charleston Heritage Symposium.  The inaugural Symposium will be held October 5, 6 & 7, 2012, and this years theme is Inside Neoclassical Charleston.

The Sallie E. Simons Scholarship will underwrite registration and lodging costs for a current student in the field of historic preservation, art history, history, museum studies, decorative arts, or a related field.  Applicants should express why this experience in Charleston will enrich their academic experience. 

Travel expenses to and from Charleston and meals other than those included in the registration will be the responsibility of the recipient.

Sallie Enders Simons (1927-2012) was a great supporter of historic preservation and the arts in Charleston.  She attended Ashley Hall School in Charleston and graduated from St. Catherines School in Richmond, Virginia, after which she studied at Parsons School for Design.  She was a member of the Preservation Society of Charleston, the Colonial Dames of South Carolina and the Huguenot Society, as well as an accomplished artist with a large portfolio of watercolors.

Charleston Heritage Symposium was established in 2012 by an all-volunteer board of decorative arts and cultural heritage enthusiasts.  Limited to 75 patrons, the Symposium offers a delightful fall weekend in this historic South Carolina seaport renowned for its landmark buildings, magnificent homes and gracious hospitality.
