The Preservation Society of Charleston, the oldest grass roots historic preservation organization in America, is offering a 10-week, paid Fall Internship to assist with the coordination of the Societys 36th Annual Fall Tours of Homes and Gardens. Twenty tours are held over a period of five weeks from late-September to the end of October. Over 9,000 guests will attend the tours in 2012. The Internship begins in August 20th and ends October 26th, however start and end dates may be tailored to accommodate the interns schedule. The intern would work 20 hours a week for 10 weeks. $10/hour.
The Fall Intern will work with the Programs Manager on a variety of tasks associated with the Fall Tours. The Intern will develop new or improve existing architectural and historical data for tour houses and sites to ensure that accurate information is provided to docents and tour guests. In addition, the Intern will provide administrative support for the tour program, including management of volunteer and guest databases, coordination of mailings to volunteers and homeowners, and a variety of other administrative and support tasks.
The Society is seeking a graduate or undergraduate student in historic preservation or history or a related field. Candidates should have strong research, writing, and organizational skills and the ability to manage both the research and administrative tasks. Experience in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access is preferred.
