The City of Georgetown is currently seeking a Downtown and Historic District Planner for the Most Beautiful Town Square in Texas, to review applications for development in the district and to assist in the design and implementation of the Downtown Master Plan. The ideal candidate will be customer service focused, creative, diplomatic, organized, deadline driven, but calm and flexible, as well as have good public speaking, negotiating, writing, and analytical skills, and be politically astute.
This is the third level of the planner series providing professional level work in support of Planning and Development Services. Assignments may be made in either the Current or Long-Range Planning Sections.
Essential Duties:
- Reviews, manages and processes current and / or long-range planning applications / studies in conformance with the Unified Development Code, Downtown Master Plan and Downtown Overlay Guidelines and other development codes / standards. Prepares reports and makes presentations to the Boards, Commissions and City Council.
- Maintains contact with other staff and agencies involved in the planning process. Provides public information and supports other planning functions as needed.
- Assists in implementation of the Downtown Master Plan.
- Acts as the liaison for the Historic and Architectural Review Commission and serves as its primary point of contact.
- Does field work and site inspections as warranted, special projects as assigned, and researches projects. Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Urban Planning, Historic Preservation, Architecture or closely related field with at least five (5) years of municipal planning experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience in design review in historic districts is highly preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Ability to operate standard word processing, spreadsheet, and graphic software, ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers. Ability to negotiate and communicate effectively with developers, citizens, appointed officials, Core Team, and the public.
- Reading: Reads reports, plans, legal documents, and memos. - Writting: Writes reports, plans, newsletter articles, resolutions, ordinances. - Math: Calculates distances, angles, etc., during interpretation of zoning ordinances and site plans. - Reasoning: Analyze complex problems and develop positive courses of action. - Advanced Theoretical Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of planning principles; knowledge of state laws regarding planning activities.
