Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing historic preservation data; conducting  historic site/structure surveys; preparing landmark nominations; formulating preservation policies and plans; serving as staff liaison to the historic preservation commission; reviewing building permits within the historic district; providing design guidance to building permit applicants; conducting public information programs; and grant writing.   

Requires a bachelors degree in historic preservation, preservation planning, architectural history, urban planning, land use planning or closely related field (masters degree preferred), and a minimum of 2 years of municipal experience in historic preservation, or an equivalent combination of experience and education leading to an ability to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.  

Requires ability to maintain effective working relationships with residents, property owners, architects, contractors, developers, city advisory commissions and city staff. A thorough understanding of the principles and practices of historic preservation, urban planning, and zoning regulation is required.  Computer proficiency in basic computer software and effective written and verbal communication skills are a must.
