Middle Tennessee State University
Center for Historic Preservation

The Center for Historic Preservation, a Center of Excellence established in 1984 at Middle Tennessee State University, supports Tennessee history, culture, and education through the identification and preservation of Tennessee heritage assets--historic sites, landscapes, artifacts, and documents that tell the story of our state's vibrant past. The Center plays a vital role in heritage stewardship and education through partnership-based programs that benefit municipalities, civic organizations, businesses, and individuals throughout Tennessee. Utilizing “best practices” programs and activities in academic scholarship, field work, and experiential learning, the Center continues its initial and long-standing commitment to shape the careers of historic preservation practitioners through community-based projects that enhance the quality of life in the region.
