The Historic District Landmarks Commission (HDLC) is the City's regulatory agency for local Historic District Landmarks Commissions outside of the Vieux Carre . Established in 1976, this agency provides the staff and office space for the two Commissions, the New Orleans Historic District Landmarks Commission and the Central Business District Historic District Landmarks Commission.
The two historic district safeguard the heritage of the City by preserving and regulating historic landmarks and historic districts which reflect elements of its cultural, social, economic, political and architectural history. They preserve and enhance the quality of neighborhoods, strengthening the City's economic base, stimulating the tourist industry, improving property values, fostering economic development, and encouraging growth. |

Summary:
The New Orleans Historic District Landmarks Commission is seeking a highly organized individual with an architecture degree, Masters in Historic Preservation, or both for position of Building Plans Examiner for the Uptown and Algiers Point local historic districts.
Job Description:
The Building Plans Examiner reviews all work to the exterior of buildings located within local historic districts for compliance with the guidelines of the Commission. The Building Plans Examiner consults with applicants, performs site visits, coordinates monthly Architectural Review Committee and Commission meetings, reviews architectural plans for accuracy and appropriateness amongst other duties. This position entails extensive work with the public and other government agencies, including City Planning and the Department of Safety & Permits.
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Architecture or a Masters Degree in Historic Preservation
- One (1) year of experience in preservation architecture or educational specialization in preservation architecture (at least 9 semester hours)
- Be a resident of Orleans Parish with a valid drivers license
- The ability to draw detailed building, window, and door sections.
- Knowledge of New Orleans architectural styles and types
- Excellent organizational skills, patience and motivation.
- If appointed, employee must obtain ICC Building Plans Examiner Certification within one year.
Salary:
$37,027 per year
