The LEnfant Trust seeks a Director of Development with strong written and verbal communication skills that will promote the Trusts mission and programs.  The successful candidate will raise public and private support from individuals and institutional donors including foundations, corporations, and government.  The individual selected to fill this position will be an astute mid to senior level professional with a passion for grant writing and the capacity to manage fundraising for a range of activities from small projects to multi-million dollar initiatives.  Reporting to the President and working closely with other key staff, the Director of Development will be asked to launch this newly created position from day one promptly maximizing the Trusts opportunities to meet its mission in preserving and revitalizing Washingtons historic communities. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Be a key member of the executive team and work closely with the Trusts President and Directors responsible for specific programs and initiatives. 

·        Build and expand the Trusts funding base; researching prospective donors and partners.

·        Create high quality proposals, reports, briefing materials and correspondence for individual donors, foundation, corporate and government funders; prepare budgets.

·        Monitor the progress of funded projects and analyze outcomes.

·        Act as development liaison between The LEnfant Trust staff and partner organizations responsible for specific programs and initiatives; help the team refine goals, objectives, operations plans and desired outcomes.

·        Facilitate meetings with internal and external stakeholders, determining next steps and driving results.

·        Draft critical communications to key partners.

·        Report to funders on progress of grants received, ensuring accountability and compliance with grant purposes.

·        Work with the Administrative Coordinator to maintain accurate and current donor records and reports.

·        Perform other work as needed; additional tasks may include: researching prospective donors and partners, coordinating site visits and other funder events; managing special events and donor stewardship activities.

Job Qualifications

·        Bachelors degree and five years professional fundraising experience required.

·        Prior development experience and proven track record in fundraising required; experience managing large multi-year proposals preferred.

·        Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

·        Excellent interpersonal skills, judgment, and diplomacy.

·        Strong organizational skills, highly motivated and detail-oriented.

·        Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively as part of team, and manage multiple projects effectively.

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experienced with fundraising software.
