The Tallahassee Trust for Historic Preservation, Inc. is a 501(c)3 membership-based historic preservation advocacy and education non-profit located in Tallahassee, Florida, that is contracted by the City of Tallahassee and Leon County to serve as the staff for the Certified Local Government and Architectural Review Board. The Board of Directors is seeking an applicant for the position of Executive Director. The Executive Director, who reports to the Board of Directors, the City of Tallahassee, and Leon County, is responsible for managing the Trustís daily activities, including supervising the City and Countyís Certified Local Government (CLG) activities. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, results-driven individual who will fulfill the duties of the CLGís Historic Preservation Officer; coordinate with local, state, and national agencies to maximize the efficiency and quality of the City and Countyís CLG activities and benefits; educate the public about historic preservation and increase community engagement with the preservation planning process; elevate the Trustís profile in the community and region as a leader in historic preservation advocacy; and supervise the financial and legal operations of the Trust utilizing best practices for non-profit management. A masterís degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Public History, or a related field from an accredited college or university with 5 years of increasing responsibility experience in the field of historic preservation preferred.

Essential Duties

Serves as Historic Preservation Officer for the City of Tallahassee and Leon County CLG;

†††††††† Acts as the primary staff member for the Architectural Review Board (ARB)

†††††††† Evaluates, reviews, and processes Certificate of Appropriateness applications

†††††††† Facilitates monthly ARB meetings and prepares all related materials

†††††††† Prepares staff reports for ARB reviewed projects and develops recommendations for the monthly Board meetings

†††††††† Provides technical assistance to historic property owners

†††††††† Serves as a local expert on historic preservation principles and practices as well as case law related to historic preservation activities

†††††††† Provides input and guidance to the Planning Department on preservation related issues

†††††††† Assists with local Section 106 reviews, local and National Register nominations, and the City and Countys compliance with federal preservation regulations

†††††††† Files quarterly reports on activities and finances to the City and the County

†††††††† Files annual report on activities and finances to State of Florida CLG Coordinator

†††††††† Sits on the City of Tallahassee Historic Property Grant and Loan Committee

†††††††† Oversees applications for, and administration of, CLG grants and other funding opportunities from the State of Florida

††††† Manages all daily operating activities of the Trust, including the supervision of a small staff consisting of a Program Coordinator; part-time Office and Research Assistant; and a rotating staff of interns

††††† Reports to and implements the directions of the Board of Directors and facilitates monthly Board meetings by preparing agendas, staff reports, and supplementary materials

††††† Oversees the financial operations of the Trust and ensures that all licensing, insurance, and tax requirements are fulfilled

††††† Establishes an annual budget that draws upon a variety of funding streams, including the Trusts government contract, membership fees, and grants

††††† Develops and implements an annual fundraising plan that focuses on the cultivation of individual and corporate donations

††††† Works with the Board of Directors to update the Trusts Strategic Plan, mission, and goals, then implements those updates

††††† Cultivates new and existing relationships with other local non-profits, preservation architects, contractors, and consultants to establish a network of preservation professionals that the Trust, its members, and historic property owners can draw upon
