Established in 1984, the Center for Historic Preservation at Middle Tennessee State University is a research and public service department that works in all facets of historic preservation across the nation. It also administers the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area (a partnership unit of the National Park Service), Teaching with Primary Sources across Tennessee (a partnership unit of the Library of Congress), and the Tennessee Century Farms program (with the state department of agriculture and other partners).

Duties

 

Report to the Director of Center for Historic Preservation and serve as the chief administrative and academic officer in the absence of the Director. Serve as the primary liaison between the programs and projects of the Center and university departments and programs. Supervise and mentor graduate research assistants at the Center and contribute to the university's doctoral programs. Develop outside funding opportunities for the Center and its programs and partnerships and perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum qualifications:  Master's degree in U.S. history, historic preservation, public history or allied field and five years of full time experience in history, historic preservation, public history, or allied field with particular experience in developing and administering grants and grant programs, developing public programs and projects, and maintaining a strong publication record in historic preservation, history, architectural history, and/or public history required.

Preferred qualifications:  Doctoral degree in U.S. history, historic preservation, public history or allied field and two years of full time experience in history, historic preservation, public history or allied field with particular experience in developing and administering grants and grant programs, developing public programs and projects, and maintaining a strong publication record in historic preservation, history, architectural history, and/or public history preferred.
