Pasadena Heritage

The mission of Pasadena Heritage is to identify, preserve and protect the historic, architectural, and cultural resources of the City of Pasadena through advocacy, education, and oral histories. Pasadena Heritage is one of the oldest historic preservation groups in Southern California and the second largest in the state. With more than 2,000 members, it is also one of the City of Pasadena's largest membership organizations.

Pasadena Heritage, the second largest nonprofit historic preservation organization in California and founded in 1977, is seeking applicants for the position of Preservation Director.

The Preservation Director is responsible for the organizations preservation easement program and advocacy efforts on behalf of historic resources. The easement program currently protects over 80 historic resources, and responsibilities include annual inspections, review and oversight of proposed projects, and recruitment of new easement contracts. The Preservation Director also works with the Executive Director, Advocacy Committee, and Board of Directors on advocacy efforts, including tracking projects during the City approval process, working with developers and property owners to influence projects impacting historic resources, and representing Pasadena Heritage at Commission and City Council meetings. The Preservation Director often serves as the organizations spokesperson or representative at city commissions and other public meetings. Prepapring local landmark and National Register nominations, providing technical advice and assistance to owners of historic properties, and other projects are also part of the job.

The ideal candidate will hold a Masters Degree in Historic Preservation or a related field and have two years work experience in historic preservation; candidates with a Bachelors Degree and relevant experience will also be considered. Familiarity with preservation easements, historic building styles and materials, accepted preservation practices and resources, including the Secretary of the Interior Standards for Restoration and Rehabilitation, and city planning procedures, is highly preferable. Excellent writing, organization, and communication skills are a must.

This is a full-time position with benefits including health insurance. Some evening weekend hours are required.
