Established and award-winning, nonprofit downtown economic development organization with approximately $290,000 annual budget, seeks an experienced visionary professional to continue economic development initiatives and foster strong stakeholder relations through communication and collaboration.
Established over thirty-three years ago, Downtown Salisbury, Inc. (DSI) is one of North Carolinas most successful downtown redevelopment corporations servicing the Downtown Salisbury Municipal Service District. Salisbury is a designated North Carolina Main Street community since 1980 and accredited by the National Main Street Center, Inc. DSIs approach marries economic development with historic preservation using four key areas: Planning, Advocating, Stakeholder Relations, and Economic Development.
Candidates should have a background in economic development with strong communication, organizational, and planning skills. Bachelors degree from an accredited college / university in the field of public administration, economic development, urban / community planning, business, or a related field. Masters or related advanced degree and education preferred. Previous experience with commercial and / or residential real estate is a plus but not a requirement.
Principal on-site staff person responsible for administrative and professional responsibilities associated with economic development projects, long and short term organizational planning, and volunteer administration; administration of financial incentives including grants and loans. Position will share supervisory role of Project Coordinator with the Chief Executive Officer of the Salisbury-Rowan County Convention Visitors Bureau.
Experience with economic development projects, historic preservation, historic tax credits, and mixed-use development required. Written, oral, and computer skills imperative; grant writing, budgeting, and public relations skills necessary. Position requires a strong aptitude for public speaking and a positive and flexible attitude. The ideal candidate will have the ability to collaborate well with other economic development organizations and cultivate and sustain new and established partnerships.

Downtown Salisbury, Inc. will promote, enhance and manage the development of the central business district in a manner which will make the district the economic, governmental, social and cultural center of Rowan County. We will address the needs of impacting neighborhoods and businesses within and adjacent to the Municipal Service District. We will accomplish the above by promoting activity in economic restructuring, design, promotions, and building partnerships.
