AmaTerra Environmental is seeking a Historic Preservation Assistant for immediate full time employment in our Las Cruces, New Mexico office and with a primary duty station at nearby White Sands Missile Range. This is a reposting of an earlier job opening posted elsewhere.
DESCRIPTION. Work will include documenting Cold War era buildings, objects and structures, compile support documentation for Section 106 consultation to include inventory forms, maps and photographs, drafting new and supplementing existing historic contexts, conducting archival research and oral history interviews, technical writing, assisting in design of content for public outreach (digital and non-digital content) and interacting with US government personnel and other clients. Some work may also involve recording archaeological resources but this will not be a primary responsibility. Funding is immediately available for one year of employment with the strong possibility of additional follow-on work.
QUALIFICATIONS. The successful candidate will minimally have a Bachelors degree in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, American Studies, or a closely related field and at least three years of related work experience. Desirable skills will include familiarity with military build environments and Cold War era resources and history. Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree. Candidates must be able to pass a US government background security check.
