Pasadena Heritage is a nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation in and around Pasadena, California. Founded in 1977, it is one of the oldest historic preservation groups in Southern California and the second largest in the state. Its 2,000-plus members are drawn from Pasadena and neighboring communities, and throughout Southern California. Help Wanted - Part time Communications Coordinator Position
Pasadena Heritage, the second largest non profit historic preservation organization in California and founded in 1977, is seeking applicants for a part time Communications Coordinator.
The Communications Coordinator is responsible for promoting Pasadena Heritage and its events and programs in a variety of ways including printed materials, electronic media, press, and our website. Preferred candidates will have excellent communications skills and experience in the production of newsletters, announcements and other printed materials; electronic newsletters and e-blasts; Facebook and other social media; and website management and on-line sales.
The Communications Coordinator position is a regular part-time position, 24 hours or three days per week with flexible scheduling. Additional hours will be required several times per year for major events. Some evening and weekend hours are required. A summary of projects and tasks follows:
  • Develop, write and manage a variety of communication materials, media and outreach and serve as primary press contact.
  • Help develop and improve social media strategies and increase outreach
  • Maintain and update press contact lists and personal press contacts
  • Maintain and update email lists for electronic communications
  • Acquire, maintain and update photo files
  • Provide information for various committees and Board of Directors
  • Liaison with advertising agency and website provider
  •  Work as a constructive team member with other staff to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Monitor website including hits, store purchases, and minor updates
  • Monitor PR/Marketing schedule and deadlines
  • Facebook posts
  •  Answer or direct general inquiries
  •  Attend and contribute to staff meetings
  • Assign, organize and assemble monthly e-news
  • Review and update Website information (events, advocacy information, store)
  • Prepare month-end activity and financial reports for web activity
  • Coordinate and send press releases
  • Prepare for monthly PR/Marketing meeting and reports for the Board
Periodic Event Related (3 major events per year) 
  • Coordinate printed materials and mailings and electronic announcements
  • Prepare and send press releases and serve as primary press contact
  • Prepare and place advertising in outside publications
  • Solicit and coordinate media sponsors for special events
  • Solicit and coordinate advertising for event programs
  • Prepare and send weekly event-related e-blasts and Facebook posts
  • Manage ticket sales (online internally or with outside provider) and confirmations
  • Create reservation lists and back-up files
  • Assist at events with media relations, ticket sales, and reception desk
Periodic Newsletter
  • Assist in preparing story budget, making assignments, locating photos
  • Write assigned articles, edit and proofread other submissions
  • Assemble submissions and create Newsletter using template
  • Coordinate printing and mailing, and distribute electronically
Skills and Experience 
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills (English)
