The College of Design at the University of Kentucky seeks a Dean who can balance academic excellence, the intimate quality of the school, and revenue growth.


We invite applications from candidates who are eager to participate in the life of the college. They should possess the vision and ability to lead a college of three closely related disciplines within a university that is committed to research, teaching and service. The Dean is responsible for the overall supervision and direction of a college that includes the School of Architecture, the School of Interiors, and the Department of Historic Preservation. The Dean is expected to provide strong intellectual leadership for the College of Design; promote excellence among its faculty, staff and students; oversee the quality and scope of educational programs; manage the colleges financial and human resources; and take a primary role in fundraising and growing revenue streams. As the chief academic officer of the college, the Dean reports directly to the Provost.


The professional work of candidates for the position of Dean of the College of Design should be a model of academic excellence and have earned international recognition. Along with an outstanding record of scholarly/creative achievement, the qualifications for this position include a substantial record of collaboration with university, professional, community and government groups; evidence of strong leadership; experience with personnel matters and complex financial models; and the following credentials or their equivalent: a terminal professional degree with professional certification or a Ph.D. The degree and professional certification should be in design with preference for candidates in architecture, interiors, or historic preservation. In addition, candidates should have qualifications commensurate with tenure at the rank of Professor in the College of Design.
