George Washington's Mount Vernon
Historic Preservation

George Washington’s Mount Vernon, a preeminent example of an 18th-century Chesapeake plantation, has been owned by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, America’s first historic preservation organization, since 1858. Over one million annual visitors come to experience the 36 original and replica buildings comprising Washington's home overlooking the Potomac River.
