NewTown Macon, a 501©3 non-profit organization, is the driving force behind revitalization in downtown Macon, Georgia. Formed in 1996, NewTown has leveraged more than $400 million of investment in the urban core over the past eighteen years. NewTown’s main focus is on increasing the number of residents living in downtown while also working to grow jobs, create a sense of place, and advocate for community issues. This position is responsible for designing, implementing and managing programs to create a sense of place in downtown Macon, primarily through marketing and public relations. In addition, the Director of Place manages economic development initiatives such as business recruitment, encourages events and programming and improves utilization of public spaces. The Director of Place will join four other full-time employees and four part-time staff, at our headquarters on Cherry St. Employees are treated as professionals in their expertise. Staff members manage their own time and tasks, and a flexible work schedule is a benefit. Although an obligation to some night and weekend work is expected, office hours are served less rigorously.

The Director of Place is a full-time entry level position responsible for fulfilling our mission by providing marketing, public relations, and media relations to support all of the organizations programming. This employee is responsible for managing the organizations websites, digital and print communications, social media accounts, and controlling the overall image of NewTown. This position reports to the President and CEO and works closely with staff and Board members.  

 

 

The successful employee will be creative, well-organized, efficient and able to multi-task.  The employee will also be an excellent communicator and fluent in digital and traditional communication forms including graphic design.  We are looking for a team member who brings professional skills in marketing, communications and event planning who can strengthen all aspects of our mission, especially increasing general awareness about our activities and success.


Required Qualifications:

-Bachelors degree in marketing, public relations or related field

-Advanced computer literacy 

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in the following is strongly desired.

-Adobe InDesign and Photoshop

-WordPress (or experience in website maintenance using similar content management system)

-Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

-Constant Contact (or experience with similar email marketing site)

 

-Social media (primarily Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Flickr)


Performance Measures:

-Manage NewTowns comprehensive branding campaign, including website maintenance of three domains, weekly mass email communications and consistent social media updates- 30% of job

-Plan and execute events, including coordination of the marketing of First Friday, a monthly downtown-wide event; lead a team to plan and execute Halluva Auction, NewTowns only event fundraiser; oversee the second season of Macon Pops, a cultural event with symphony musicians playing classical music; support other projects sponsored by NewTown- 30% of job

-Coordinate with property owners and leasing managers to encourage leasing and/or sale of downtown lofts - 15% of job

-Work with property owners and developers to place commercial tenants in downtown storefronts- 10% of job

-Establish a good rapport with area media working to create continual positive public relations on NewTown, our projects and downtown in general, and produce press releases and media conferences when necessary - 10% of job

 

-Provide consulting advice to NewTowns staff, Board and members on consistent marketing and branding throughout all the work produced by NewTown- 5% of job
