Blithewold, Inc., the managers and operators of Blithewold Mansion, Gardens & Arboretum, has posted a Request for Proposals (RFP) from parties interested in preparing a National Historic Landmark (NHL) nomination for the historic Country Place Era estate located at 101 Ferry Road, Bristol, Rhode Island.
Although this work may be done by an individual or a team, one person will be designated as the Principal Investigator (PI), and this person will be ultimately responsible for the completion of the work specified.
The Principal Investigator and his or her collaborators should have a combination of professional, experiential, and academic qualifications in several areas, including experience writing a successful NHL nomination within the last two years and/or completion of the National Historic Landmarks six-course webinar training series.
They should have demonstrated experience applying methods of historical documentation. They should also have demonstrated experience evaluating historic designed landscapes and/or interpreting horticultural data related to drawings and plans. Preference will be given to those with a strong knowledge of American landscape history and specialized study in Country Place Era estates and the role of women in American landscape history. All members of the research team should meet the Secretary of the Interior Professional Qualifications Standards.
