Appalachian Forest Heritage Area AmeriCorps is recruiting now for one-year full-time service commitment starting in September 2014. Serve with agency or non-profit sites in the beautiful highlands of West Virginia doing museum and heritage tourism development; community development and capacity building; conservation, or hands-on historic preservation construction and outdoor improvements. This is an excellent opportunity to gain professional experience while serving your community.
Members receive $12,100 annual living stipend and education award of $5,645 toward qualified student loans or future tuition, with most student loans deferred during service.
Multiple positions are available at museums, historic sites, local Landmark Commissions, Main Street & community development organizations, etc. through the region. All positions will involve working with community volunteers.
Duties vary by position, but may include:
- historic preservation policy, planning, education
- adaptive reuse planning
- historic preservation hands-on construction
- collections management
- research, assessments, surveys
- supporting community development efforts
- working with Main Street committees
- visitor services
- education & outreach
We seek quality graduates or individuals with life experience in fields related to one of the following:
- historic preservation,
- public history,
- museum studies,
- heritage tourism / heritage development,
- non-profit management,
- community development,
- natural resources,
- construction experience.
All candidates should be:
- self-directed and motivated
- strong communication skills
