Fairmount Park Historic Preservation Trust

The Fairmount Park Historic Preservation Trust, a non-profit organization, develops and implements innovative historic preservation solutions for historic buildings and public art throughout Philadelphia. The Trust’s interdisciplinary staff offers expertise in wood and masonry architectural conservation, architectural history, and adaptive use of historic structures. The Trust also promotes preservation education by offering hands-on internships to preservation students and professionals. The Trust is housed in the 1869 Thomas Mansion, one of more than 400 historic buildings spread throughout the 9,000+ acres of Fairmount Park, Philadelphia’s park system.

The Conservation Technician will implement building conservation projects in collaboration with the conservation staff.

 Specific job responsibilities include:

·         Performing hands-on, field-based wood conservation work.

·          Performing in-house work primarily on window repair, glazing and preparation for installation

·         Communicating project information to co-workers and clients.


The Conservation Technician position is a full-time (40 hour work week), temporary position (6 months). The salary is commensurate with experience and does not include employer-paid health insurance, paid holidays and vacation time.

The Trust benefits from a collaborative, innovative work environment. The successful candidate will offer problem-solving skills, a flexible approach to work assignments, eagerness to learn new techniques, and an ability to work independently or in a team.


The position is intended for a Conservation Technician with experience.

Preferred experience includes hands-on woodworking experience (2-3 years) or the equivalent trade education, and a general understanding of preservation philosophy.

Preference will also be given to candidates with a experience in the

building trades or a related field.
