Overview

Responsible for state and federal historic preservation permit decisions for all transportation projects and implementing provisions of the VTrans Programmatic Agreement.  Responsible for compliance with federal and state historic preservation regulations for all transportation projects. Acts as liaison among various federal and state agencies. Is able to effectively communicate among agency officials, public entities and other organizations. Responsible for oversight of the historic preservation specialist, oversight of contracted work and training of AOT staff and consultants.

 

General Job Description

Preservation identification, documenting, and permitting work for the Agency of Transportation.  An incumbent serves as Agency Historic Preservation Officer responsible for historic preservation permit decisions for all transportation projects. Duties involve technical and administrative work including the identification and documentation of historic sites that may be affected by proposed construction or maintenance projects. Duties include supervising the historic preservation specialist, oversight of contracted work, and training of AOT staff and consultants. Work is performed under the supervision of an Environmental Services Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master's degree in historic preservation or architectural history AND five (5) years or more of professional experience in historic preservation and an understanding of and experience applying the National Register Criteria and the Secretarys Standards..

OR

A Ph.D. in historic preservation or architectural history or relevant discipline and three (3) years of professional experience in historic preservation and an understanding of and experience applying the National Register Criteria and the Secretarys Standards..
