Skelly and Loy, Inc. has an immediate opening for an Architectural Historian for a Phase I Renaissance Level Architectural history survey in Western Maryland. This work is project specific to Western Maryland and is expected to last through the end of 2014. There may be additional fieldwork to follow on other projects; however, this is not guaranteed. The pay rate for this position begins at $11.00/hour. Field sessions will consist of 5 days in the field with weekends off. Lodging and meal allowance are provided on work days with receipts required. Because of the temporary nature of this position, no benefits are included. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor degree from an accredited college/university in Architectural History, History, Architecture, or a closely related field

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform field work at a Phase I/Reconnaissance level survey;

 

    • Take digital photographs of all resources surveyed;

 

    • Enter information on each resource on a Maryland Inventory of Historic Property (MIHP) form using a laptop computer or tablet; and

 

  • Download the database information and photographs onto the company servers.

REQUIRED SKILLS

    • Working knowledge of American architectural styles and building types;

 

    • Demonstrated experience in using a computer database to enter information;

 

    • Demonstrated experience taking digital photographs;

 

    • Ability to read highway and topographic maps;

 

  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.

DESIRED SKILLS

    • Working knowledge of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act;

 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Access database program.
