The Department of Historic Preservation at the University of Mary Washington invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position in Historic Preservation beginning August 2015. In addition to teaching the introductory sequence in historic preservation, the successful candidate will assume primary responsibility for courses focusing on building construction technologies, architectural styles and materials, measured drawings, and documentation.


A Ph.D. in Historic Preservation or relevant field is required.  The ability to teach AutoCAD is required and previous teaching and professional/applied experience is strongly preferred. The Department of Historic Preservation offers an interdisciplinary major that educates students as to a broad range of preservation activities, methods, and theoretical perspectives. The successful applicant will come with experience in providing students a challenging learning environment in which they will gain theoretical and practical knowledge of building technologies, documentation, and drawing. Use of current relevant technologies is important. The successful applicant also should have a thorough knowledge of architectural history in the U.S. in a preservation context. Additional interests such as vernacular construction and folklore, are welcome.
