Archaeologist/Field Director Careers Edwards AFB - Lancaster, CA

The challenge? Our Archaeologist/Field Director career path is your chance to be a member of our Cultural Resources Team serving as the technical lead to provide daily support to Edwards AFBs cultural resources management program through reviewing undertakings for potential impacts to historic properties; supporting consultation with the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), and other interested parties; leading archaeological surveys, site evaluations, and preparing associated documentation. You should be a self-motivated professional with demonstrated research, writing, and management experience to direct field research and produce quality reports for a federal client, a successful 5 to 10 year track record in Archaeology, have a Masters Degree, and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each archaeology project.

Our Archaeologists/Field Directors:

  • Lead archaeological surveys, site evaluations, and prepare associated documentation consultation
  • Potentially support consultation with the State Historic Preservation Officer (SHPO), the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP), and other interested parties
  • Plan and implement phase I surveys to identify new archaeological sites
  • Conduct phase II site evaluations to determine eligibility to the National Register of Historic Places, conducting analyses of prehistoric and historic material
  • Implement phase II evaluation and phase III data recovery projects
  • Complete projects in a timely manner
  • Utilize their strong interpersonal and writing skills and previous experience as a field manager
  • Have experience completing archaeological site records (DPR 523 forms) and with Section 106 compliance
  • Have clear and effective written and oral communication skills and establish and maintain positive working relationships with fellow employees and the Air Force customer
  • Position requires a current Secret Security Clearance (or ability to obtain). To obtain, must be a U.S. citizen.

    This position will be onsite at Edwards Air Base, CA. Applicant must be able to demonstrate the completion of one or more testing or data recovery projects and the preparation of final reports. The work location is in the Western Mojave Desert, so the ability to work in a desert environment is also required.
