Chattel, Inc. is a Los Angeles-based historic preservation consulting firm that serves clients in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. We aim to successfully balance project goals with a myriad of historic preservation regulations. Our team of professionals meeting the Secretary of the Interiorís Professional Qualifications Standards in architectural history, history, and historic architecture provides consulting services including historical resource assessment, evaluation of potential project effects, design collaboration, construction monitoring, and consultation on federal, state, and local historic preservation policies. Our diverse projects in the western United States include design consultation for the Santa Monica Post Office; California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) review for rehabilitation of South Pasadenaís Rialto Theater; implementation of federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives for the Historic Westside School in Las Vegas; consultation on rehabilitation of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs West Los Angeles campus; and prioritization of multiple preservation projects at Santa Barbara Mission. Past projects include United States Post Office and Court House (now the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, Las Vegas), Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel (Los Angeles), Mare Island Naval Shipyard (Vallejo), Far East Café Building (Los Angeles), Twohy Building (San José), Beverly Hills Womenís Club (Beverly Hills), Stuart Pharmaceutical Company (Pasadena), and Breed Street Shul (Los Angeles).

We are seeking a talented and energetic part-time intern (at least 24 hours a week, with the potential for employment of up to 40 hours a week) who wants to gain valuable work experience in historic preservation while providing research assistance and general administrative support.

Applicants should have relevant experience or strong interest in architecture, urban planning, history, and/or historic preservation. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software is essential; familiarity with photo applications, such as Adobe Photoshop, and Esri ArcGIS is recommended. We offer flexible hours, a casual workplace, and competitive compensation. The internship will begin in May or June 2015.
