The Versar Environmental Services Group is seeking an Architectural Historian to augment its cultural resources staff. Versar is looking for a dynamic person who is able to build a group servicing a wide variety of clients.
The candidate must meet the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for professional qualifications in architectural history, which include a graduate degree in architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or closely related field, with coursework in American architectural history. Experience in building assessments, research, and writing is required as well. Skills and areas of experience that would enhance the candidates value to Versar include prior experience with assessment of Department of Defense buildings and structures, particularly those of the Cold War era built environment, and familiarity with military historic resources. LEEDs certification or experience with rehabilitation of historic buildings is desirable, but not required.
The candidate must have good writing skills, be willing to travel, capable in both 35mm and digital photography, and familiar with MS Office tools, including Word and Excel. Location of this position is negotiable; however, the preferred locations are either Plano, Texas, or Springfield, Virginia.
The primary duties of the successful candidate will include:
Performing identification, documentation, and evaluation of historic resources;
Applying National Register of Historic Places criteria to determine the significance and integrity of historic resources;
Developing historic contexts;
Preparing survey reports, performing historical research, and report writing;
Preparing and designing public outreach products such as brochures, posters, displays, and exhibits.
