Founded in 1935, Historic Richmondís mission is to shape the future of Richmond by preserving its distinctive historic character, sparking revitalization and championing its past and future architectural legacy. The organization operates in the arenas of preservation, neighborhood revitalization, adaptive reuse and advocacy. It is committed to preserving the character of the city, energizing its neighborhoods and working to keep Richmond interesting and authentic. Historic Richmond is a 501(c) (3) non-profit with an operating budget of $750,000 and a staff of 6. Based in Richmond, Virginia, Historic Richmond is governed by a 22 member Board of Trustees, including a 5 member Executive Committee.

The responsibilities of the Executive Director include: providing strategic vision and leadership on matters of governance, mission, programs, and operations; enhancing the financial stability and resources of the organization; effectively building, leading, and motivating staff; overseeing the organizations day-to-day activities; building external relationships with various constituencies at the local, state and national levels; and serving as an organizational spokesperson.

Qualifications:† The ideal candidate will have a masters degree or equivalent experience in historic preservation, revitalization, architecture, architectural history, urban planning and/or business administration with 10 plus years of experience involving non-profit or business leadership.† S/he will be a strong leader of people with a results orientation, highly effective communication skills, and an ability to mobilize groups of people with divergent views to facilitate accommodations on historic preservation and urban revitalization issues.† Strong knowledge of the Metropolitan Richmond area is highly desirable, but not a requirement.
