 Under direct supervision of the deputy state historic preservation director candidate will conduct research and verification of historical information provided for purpose of completing review of projects submitted in compliance with section 106 of the national historic preservation act of 1966, as amended, and 36CFR800, "the protection of historic properties," and WV Code 29-1-8a and 82 CSR 2, "standards and procedures for administering state historic preservation programs;" evaluate proposed scopes of work for the rehabilitation of historic buildings as appropriate according to the secretary of the interior's standards for rehabilitation; provide technical assistance regarding the rehabilitation of historic buildings according to the secretary of the interior's standards for rehabilitation; conduct site visits as required to complete project review for section 106 compliance projects prepare reports in the form of section 106 comment letters and other written documentation; provide assistance to state or federal agencies, private organizations or individuals regarding the completion of the section 106 compliance process; coordinate the transfer of survey information and historic inventory forms to the office's survey and national register files; review and evaluation of state development grant applications and projects; other duties as assigned. Must possess a valid drivers license. Travel is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Training: Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in architectural history, historic preservation or a closely related field.

Substitution: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university in the above fields and two years of full time or equivalent part-time paid experience in historic preservation work such as conducting historic resource surveys, research, preparing National Register nominations, writing, teaching, interpreting history as a historian, or closely related activities may substitute for the Master's degree.

Experience: Two years of paid full-time or equivalent part time paid employment in historic preservation work such as conducting historic resource surveys, research, preparing National Register nominations, writing, teaching, interpreting history as a historian, or closely related activities.
