The Town of Falmouth is currently looking for an Intern to work with the Planning Department/Historic Commission on a variety of projects. This is a great opportunity to work closely with the Planning and GIS staff, as well as, the Historical Commission. This will be a rewarding and valuable experience for those interested in gaining firsthand experience or college credit.
Various projects will be assigned, including: overseeing, organizing and updating Falmouths Form B surveys, which will include cataloging, scanning, and uploading the surveys for reference on the Towns GIS platform. The Form B survey which is administered by the Massachusetts Historical Commission provides an architectural description and a historical narrative of a building or structure located within the Commonwealth. If time permits, the intern may begin updating the architectural and historical narratives of the Form B surveys and may be assigned other duties as needed.
The applicant should be enrolled in a graduate-level program with a major in GIS, geography, history, land planning, or historic preservation. The candidate must be familiar with GIS software. Previous work with land records, land use, architectural history, or historical research is preferred. This is a 10 week assignment, with flexible start and end dates during the summer through the fall of 2015. Pay rate is $16/hr and the schedule is for 19 hours/week.
