The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor (and its nonprofit Erie Canalway Heritage Fund, Inc.) collaborates with communities and organizations to preserve and interpret the nationally significant heritage of New York’s canal system, provide world-class recreational and educational opportunities, foster economic revitalization, and improve quality of life within a 524-mile long Corridor. The Corridor includes more than 2.7 million people and more than 230 communities that border the present-day New York State Canal System and its historic alignments. Duties and Responsibilities Produce high-quality communications that engage and inform internal and external audiences, including annual reports, maps and guides, calendars, site directories, travel itineraries and other materials Develop clear and consistent communication messages and materials for all program and resource development activities Manage website and social media; including content development and updates; produce e-newsletters; manage contact information and integrate with other information management systems Manage media events, including press releases and other materials; manage relationships with media Maintain archives of photographs and news/media stories; participate in photo contest judging to ensure best images are captured for use Provide professional expertise in all aspects of communications and outreach to staff and volunteers; consult with partners as appropriate Perform variety of regular, and as-needed, administrative functions, including work planning, budgeting, project management, contract management and reporting Qualifications and Requirements Personal interest in and commitment to preserving and promoting the extraordinary heritage and resources of the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor; long-term familiarity with the Corridor and its historic, cultural and natural resources preferred Demonstrated superior communication, outreach and engagement skills A team player, able to work within a fast paced environment; energetic and creative and able to motivate staff, volunteers, partners and supporters to action; substantial experience working in team environments and with volunteers preferred Minimum 5 years communications and outreach experience with private or public sectors; significant nonprofit experience preferred Bachelors degree required; Masters degree preferred Willingness to travel, as appropriate, for meetings, trainings, and events
