The State Historic Preservation Office is a group of committed professionals that fulfill the activities mandated by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. Job Description:

Serve as the outreach and education coordinator for the office.  Assist with the development of outreach and grant assistance program activities, workshops, webinars and publications which provide technical assistance and promote awareness and understanding of historic preservation.  Assist the Certified Local Government Program in organizing training events, monitoring, certification requests and other activities as necessary to ensure the program is meeting its mandated requirements.  Assist with the statewide planning process.  Monitoring grant projects including providing assistance in the development of grant proposals, review/scoring of grant applications, development of grant contracts and milestones, and inspection of grant funded activities to ensure conformance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation.


Applicants should possess the following qualities:

  • Intermediate knowledge of the objectives and procedures of the National Historic Preservation Act.

  • Intermediate knowledge of federal legislation, regulations, and requirements pertaining to the state's historic preservation activities.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Missouris history, architecture, and/or archaeology.

  • Intermediate knowledge of historic preservation principles and practices.

  • Intermediate knowledge of research sources and methodology.

  • Introductory knowledge of the principles of planning and zoning, community development, and real estate related to historic properties.

  • Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, federal and state officials, and the general public.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and carry out assignments effectively.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and respond to requests for information.


    Desired Education: Masters Degree is preferred by not required.




  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: History, Archaeology,  Anthropology, Historic Preservation, or Museology (Museum Studies); and One or more years of experience in historic research or writing, preservation planning, architectural survey, real estate development of historic properties, archaeological investigation, anthropology, or related historic and/or cultural resource preservation activities. (24 earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in the specified areas may substitute for the required experience.
