The Preservation Society of Newport County is a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 1945 to preserve and protect the architectural heritage of Newport County, Rhode Island. The Preservation Society’s collection of historic houses together with their landscapes, fine and decorative arts constitutes a unique cultural museum spanning the colonial period through the Gilded Age. Each house museum plays a significant role in the effort to preserve and interpret the evolution of Newport’s artistic, social, and cultural past, which reflects developments on the national level. The Preservation Society is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, a designation achieved by only six percent of American museums. The Preservation Society of Newport County is a non-profit organization whose mission is to protect, preserve, and present an exceptional collection of house museums and landscapes in one of the most historically intact cities in America. We hold in public trust the Newport Mansions, which are an integral part of the living fabric of Newport, Rhode Island. These sites exemplify three centuries of the finest achievements in American architecture, decorative arts, and landscape design spanning the Colonial era to the Gilded Age. Through our historic properties, educational programs, and related activities, we engage the public in the story of America’s vibrant cultural heritage. Annual Giving Associate

The Preservation Society of Newport County seeks a full time fundraising professional to help support and grow its Annual Fund and Planned Giving programs. 

Job Responsibilities

       Assist with the development and implementation of the Annual Fund and Planned Giving plans, incorporating a range of engagement and fundraising activities that include prospect research, writing solicitations and appeals, writing gift acknowledgements, donor stewardship, and strategic social media/website marketing.

       Help revise and then manage appropriate Annual Fund acknowledgement procedures, including tax acknowledgments, customized thank you notes, telephone calls and e-mails.

       Organize and process all Annual Fund solicitation mailings (customized in-house mailings as well as mail house processed mailings) and e-mailings.

       Develop and implement year-end Annual Fund reminder and call plan for staff and volunteers.

       Ensure Raisers Edge database donor and prospect records are accurate and up-to-date; be prepared to run donor, gift and event reports as necessary.

       Manage logistics for committee meetings and cultivation/stewardship events, including (but not limited to) annual major donor and planned giving events.

       Conduct donor and prospect research.

       Research and write planned giving donor profiles/stories for use as marketing tools.

       Help review and revise Annual Fund and Planned Giving website pages.

       Develop and implement an Annual Fund e-mail and social media plan.

       Provide support to Development colleagues when needed.

       Other duties to be determined, depending on Development Departments growing needs and on candidates unique interests and skills.

 

Required Qualifications

       Bachelors degree, plus 3-5 years of professional fundraising experience.

       Excellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to create and proofread important donor communications.

       Exceptional interpersonal skills must be able to interact appropriately and effectively with Board members, volunteers
