The Missouri State Historic Preservation Office is a group of committed professionals that fulfills the activities mandated by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. We’re seeking an individual with technical knowledge of historic architecture who is enthusiastic about historic preservation, enjoys working independently in a collaborative team environment, and is capable of simultaneously managing projects that vary in scope, urgency, and complexity.

Professional Opportunity
Jefferson City, MO

Job Description: This position involves the review of state and federal tax rehab projects, Section 106 rehab projects,

and HPF grants; providing technical assistance to and creating educational materials for certified local governments

and property owners; and monitoring and tracking covenants and easements. The position is based in Jefferson City,


Applicants should possess the following qualities:

Knowledge of historic architecture and the Secretary of the Interiors (SOI) Standards for Rehabilitation;

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state and federal agencies, consultants,

developers, local preservation commissions and the general public;

Ability to plan, organize, track and carry out varied and complex assignments;

Knowledge of federal law and regulations relating to the Treatment of Historic Properties, Section 106, and

the National Register of Historic Places;

Ability to learn and comprehend new programs, methodologies and techniques.

Desirable Experience:

Experience reviewing technical aspects of architectural plans and drawings

Familiarity with word processing software, scanners and cameras

Working knowledge of AutoCad preferred



Registration as an Architect by the Missouri Board of Registration for Architects, Professional Engineers and Land


Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board, with a Bachelor's

degree in architecture, architectural engineering, environmental design, building technology or a closely related field.

Four years of experience in architecture, drafting or engineering technology under the supervision of a professional

architect, which included drawing of final plans for construction projects; and two years of post-secondary education

in an accredited college or vocational technical school with specialization in architecture, architectural engineering,

environmental drafting, building technology or another closely related field. (Additional education at a four-year

college or university may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to two years of the required experience.)
