Come and be a part of saving a place of the past by looking forward! Woodlawn (est. 1805) and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Pope-Leighey House (est. 1940), are two National Treasure sites of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, located on the same grounds in historic Alexandria, Virginia. On a beautiful 126-acre estate of rolling hills overlooking the Potomac River, visitors explore and contrast the architectural and historical backgrounds of two unique homes and enjoy a natural retreat in the midst of the busy Route 1 corridor. We also have an innovative partnership with Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture, and are re-imagining our site to bring in new audiences and showcase our incredible houses and property. |

We are looking for creative, energetic and motivated interns who want to help us create and execute our 2015/2016 events schedule. Woodlawn hosts many weddings, but we are in the midst of expanding our programming to bring new audiences to our site and we need help planning and coordinating these events. The position will include some historical research, outreach and marketing, as well as typical event planning and basic fundraising duties. We promise you won't be bored! All experience considered, but those in college or with a college degree and event planning experience at all levels preferred. Please have a strong attention to detail, enjoy a variety of tasks, have a happy spirit, be a "people person" and have a willingness to chip in whenever needed. Expect to work a few evenings and weekends a month. If you love saving places in new ways, then this is the internship for you!
We are unable to offer a stipend, but are happy to work with you to offer academic credit, and expect that you will gain additional event creation experience and related skills through this position. Applicants who can stay with us through mid-December may have priority.
Woodlawn/Pope Leighey site is located near Mount Vernon and Fort Belvoir, in historic Alexandria, VA. A car is not required, but our site is not easily accessible by public transportation, so a car is usually preferred. We are a small staff, so being able to use your own laptop when necessary would also be useful. Interns will be supervised by our Program Assistant for Events & Fundraising and other site staff as required. |
