About Historic Nashville Inc.: Established in 1968 and renamed in 1975, Historic Nashville, Inc. (HNI) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 membership organization with the mission to promote and preserve the historic places that make Nashville unique. Over the years, HNI has successfully advocated for the preservation of such historic places the Ryman Auditorium, Union Station, Hermitage Hotel, 2nd Avenue & Lower Broadway and Shelby Street Bridge, as well as neighborhood historic districts throughout the city. In 1982, HNI established the state’s first Preservation Easement program and currently owns easements on 16 historic landmarks with a market value of over $50 million. HNI hosts an annual membership meeting, publishes an Annual Report, maintains a website, hosts educational programs such as Behind-the-Scenes tours, an annual fundraiser called the Brick & Mortar Bash and the annual Nashville Nine list of the city’s most endangered historic places.

Historic Nashville, Inc. (HNI) is now accepting applications for a Web Design/Developer internship program. This intern will require attending business meetings, media work, maintaining the website, marketing and also membership and development infrastructure support. The position will require some on­site work and also the ability to telecommute. The successful candidate will want to learn more about the management and development of a nonprofit, have a passion for history and preservation, attention to detail, team­ oriented working style and proven experience with communications, website design, website development, public relations or marketing. The position is non­paid, but the intern manager is willing to collaborate to provide course credit, if applicable.

 

Duties:

 

The Web Development Intern will have the opportunity to participate in the following projects and work streams:

  • Website content updates as needed to support HNI initiatives
  • Collaboration with other Committees, such as Tours/Programs, to gather information and post to the website
  • Recommendations for and implementation of website improvements
  • Marketing and social media support, research and writing
  • Media relations research, development, writing and execution
  • Communications infrastructure support
  • Executive leadership support
  • Maintain digital photo library of HNI assets
  • The intern will also have the opportunity to execute a project of their choice, refining the skillset they are most interested in and providing an end result which will be a tangible portfolio piece when they complete the program

 

Qualifications:


Marketing, graphic design, web design, communications or related experience with one-two years work or education experience. Undergraduate applicants must be accepted or currently enrolled in a four ­year university or college program. Applications from recent graduates will also be considered.

  • Previous experience with Sitemason a strong plus;
  • Understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript;
  • Ability to write and update website Source Code;
  • Ability to add Metadata tags to websites;
  • Skilled in social media content management;
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite;
  • Highly motivated, organized and able to work on several projects simultaneously
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills;
  • Personal commitment to HNIs mission and goals.


 

Time Commitment: Minimum of 15-hours per week; minimum 6-month commitment

 

Compensation: This is an unpaid position. Position offers an excellent opportunity to work on substantive projects, gain experience in this field and can result in a great reference. College credit for undergraduates may be available.
