The Historic Resources Section of the Environmental and Resource Analysis Division reviews projects for impacts to historic resources, conducts historic surveys, takes forward historic designations, serves as staff to the Historical Resources Board and as liaison to the State Office of Historic Preservation, contributes to community plan updates, and implements the Mills Act.

The City is looking to hire a Junior or Assistant Planner to work in the Historical Resources section of the Environmental and Resource Analysis Division. The position will be responsible for review and analysis of nominations for individual historic resource designation; review of projects impacting buildings 45 year old or older to determine whether the property impacted may be potentially historic; preparation of written and verbal staff reports to the Historical Resources Board with recommended Board action; review of projects impacting historic and potentially historic properties for consistency with the U.S. Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties; public education and customer service; as well as assisting with other program activities including historic context statements, surveys, districts and the Mills Act program.

Candidates with education and/or experience in evaluating a resource and applying designation criteria and application of the US Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties is needed. A undergraduate or graduate degree in historic preservation, architectural history or architecture is preferred.

The salary range for a Junior Planner is $3,846.00 - $4,202.00 monthly.
The salary range for an Assistant Planner is $4,009.00 - $4,851.00 monthly.
