Professional Qualifications: Bachelors Degree in History or a related field, plus 5 years progressively responsible experience.  Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.  Candidate must meet Secretary of Interior's Code of Federal Regulations, 36 CFI Part 61 requirements for professional qualifications.



General Description

Provides high-level expertise and technical advice in highly complex areas of historic preservation for clearance of transportation activities. Work involves planning, overseeing and coordinating work activities to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations. Leads the work of professional employees. Work requires extensive contact with high-level executives, governmental agencies, university officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.



  • Serves as a lead worker, leading or overseeing the development and implementation of policy, procedures, guidance, and documents to ensure compliance with applicable state and federal environmental laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Oversees planning, analyzing, coordinating, scheduling, conducting, and reporting complex cultural resource fieldwork for environmental clearance of transportation projects in compliance with applicable state/ federal laws/rules/regulations/policies.
  • Oversees the implementation of all required training for Department personnel and consultants in state and federal environmental laws, rules, regulations, policies, guidelines, and procedures and the development of training materials.
  • Oversees the production of cultural resource contract specifications, issuing requests for proposals, reviewing proposals, and recommending proposals for award.
  • Responsible for consultation with agencies, federally-recognized tribes, special-interest groups, divisions and districts, and consultants regarding complex or highly technical cultural resource issues
