Conducts research aimed at placing local developments within the broader context of city, state, and national history. Disseminates the results of that research to the public through exhibitions, publications, demonstrations, tours, symposia, workshops, and other educational activities and programs..

Strawbery Banke Museum seeks an intern to fulfill the requirements of a recently awarded FEMA grant. Strawbery Banke is a ten acres living history museum in the seacoast town of Portsmouth, NH. The project will focus on disaster preparedness for eight historic furnished houses, eighth historic houses with exhibits, archaeological sites and historic gardens.  The center of the urban museum campus is a filled in tidal inlet and the nearby Piscataqua River remains an environmental for the historic resources.    The buildings will be surveyed, mapped and assessed for weaknesses.  A sensitivity map of undisturbed ground will be created.  The second phase of the project will be to create emergency kits for individual sites.  Finally, a training program for museum staff, volunteers and local first responders will be created and presented. 

The ideal candidate for this position will have knowledge of surveying skills and the ability to use a total station.  GIS mapping skills are preferred.  The ability to work independently will be important, although there will be plenty of opportunity for group work.  Photography skills are ideal.
