The Maryland Historical Trust is the state agency dedicated to preserving and interpreting the legacy of Marylandís past. Through research, conservation, and education, the Maryland Historical Trust assists the people of Maryland in understanding their historical and cultural heritage. The Trust, part of the Maryland Department of Planning, serves as Marylandís State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) pursuant to the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966.

Summer Intern, Office of Research, Survey, & Registration
Internship Opportunity
Crownsville, MD

Interns will work under the general supervision of the Trusts†Administrator of Research and Survey. Time will be shared with both the Architectural Survey and Monuments and Markers programs and will include both fieldwork and office time. Responsibilities will be divided between conducting research and fieldwork on historic sites in Southern Maryland, assisting with updates for the Maryland Monuments database, creation of an African American driving tour of historic markers, and cataloguing the librarys slide collection. Both positions require travel to various historic properties and research facilities. Successful candidates must have a valid drivers license in the State of Maryland and be able to provide their own transportation to the Trusts office and property sites.†

Internships are for a period of 10 weeks totaling 40 hours per week during the summer of 2016.† Full-time availability required Monday through Friday during normal business hours.

Students from an accredited college or university in Historic Preservation or other closely related field. Ability to use Microsoft Word and digital camera.† Familiarity with historic architecture and investigation/documentation methods is preferred. Graduate students or recently-graduated professionals are also eligible to apply.

A stipend of $2,500 is provided. Per diem and housing are not offered.
