ASC Group, Inc., a certified, women-owned cultural and environmental resources consulting company, is seeking a highly motivated and qualified candidate for the role of full-time Architectural Historian in our Indianapolis regional office. The Architectural Historian is responsible for completing tasks related to coordination under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. Since its founding in 1986, ASC Group has grown steadily and now has offices in seven cities in five states across the Midwest with plans for further expansion.

Responsibilities include:

ˇ         Performing literature review and records checks.

ˇ         Archival/ historical research.

ˇ         Field survey

ˇ         Preparation of Historic Property Reports.

ˇ         Production of MOA, Section 4(f) and Section 106 Findings documents.

ˇ         Consulting with clients by phone or through email.

ˇ         Coordination with state agencies (namely INDOT and Indiana SHPO) and consulting parties.

ˇ         Participate in marketing efforts, including networking and attending client, public and industry meetings.


Essential Skills

The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of architectural history (building types and styles) and have experience applying the Criteria of Adverse Effect and the NRHP Criteria for Evaluation.

Must meet the Secretary of the Interiors standards to perform duties for Section 106 and NEPA compliance. Must have a valid drivers license. Overnight travel is required.



The preferred candidate will have a Masters degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, Art History, or a closely related field. A Bachelors degree in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, Art History, or a related field is acceptable with minimum of 3-4 years of full-time experience in research, writing, or teaching in American architectural history or restoration architecture with an academic institution, historical association or agency, museum, or other professional institution or a substantial contribution through research and publication to the body of scholarly knowledge in the field of American architectural history.


Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship.
