Heritage Works, Inc. is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting and promoting the architectural, historical and cultural character of the Dubuque, Iowa region. Heritage Works saves Dubuque’s architectural and historic treasures by working in partnership with individuals, businesses, government and other organizations committed to high quality, transformative historic preservation projects and practices. Dubuque is a vibrant city in Eastern Iowa located on the banks of the Mississippi River. It has a wealth of historic and architectural resources and an engaged community that recognizes the importance of those resources. The Dubuque community has been nationally recognized for its quality of life. The Preservation & Programs Manager will work closely with the CEO of Heritage Works. As a vital team member of a new, innovative organization, the Preservation & Programs Manager will have the opportunity to help plan and shape the future of Heritage Works.

The Preservation & Programs Manager is a full-time position responsible for fulfilling Heritage Works missionbyprovidingprofessionalpreservationexpertisetosupportalloftheorganizationsprogramming.  Thisemployeeisresponsibleforworkingwithproperty owners, developers and other stakeholderstosuccessfullycomplete documentation for Iowa and Federal rehabilitation tax credit programs.  Additional duties include creating rehabilitation plans, completing National Register nominations or updates, planning and executing educational events, workshops, and fundraising events, communicating through social media, writing grants and assisting with general administrative tasks. This position reports to the CEO and works closely with staff, Board members and volunteers. Because this position involves raising fee-for-service income for the organization, the employee will be prohibited from conducting outside or free-lance consulting.

The successful employee will be focused, well-organized, efficient and thorough.  The employee will also be an excellent researcher, who is capable of effectively communicating preservation research and theory to the general public through written and oral communication and through social media. We are looking for a team member who brings professional skills in historic preservation, along with an interest and ability to plan and execute community educational events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in historic preservation, architectural history or related field.
  • Advanced computer literacy

Preferred Additional Qualifications

  • Masters degree in historic preservation, architectural history or related field.
  • Experience nominating individual resources and districts to the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Experience preparing state and federal Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit Applications.
  • Grant writing experience.
  • Event planning experience, such as workshops, fundraisers, lectures or public presentations.
  • Architectural drafting experience

Performance Measures

  • Manage Heritage Works' educational programming and workshops, primarily by planning and executing well-attended, informative and engaging events and workshops:  40% of job
  • Effectively and efficiently manage and complete application processes for state and federal tax incentives for local clients:  25% of job
  • Complete National Register individual and district nominations or updates:  15% of job
  • Investigate private and public grant opportunities for Heritage Works programs and operations; prepare grant applications and administer grant awards:  20% of job
