The City of Charlotte is proud of its diverse workforce and employs over 6,000 individuals engaged in various exciting professional, administrative, public safety, technical, clerical, skilled and general labor and trades work. Charlotte has a Council-Manager form of government with a Mayor and 11 Council Members elected every two years in November, and a professional City Manager to run the day-to-day operations. Fourteen departments are responsible for providing such services as police and fire protection, waste and recyclables collection, water and sewer services, road construction and maintenance, transit, planning, zoning neighborhood development and operation of Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists planning staff in the Charlotte Historic Districts Program with research, field surveys and GIS mapping in the Wilmore neighborhood and other neighborhoods identified in the Charlotte Comprehensive Architectural Surveys as potential historic districts. May also be involved in supporting project planning associated with planning studies and reports, including area studies, corridor plans, redevelopment plans and streetscape design as part of the Planning team.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program and a student in good academic standing. Preference for students enrolled in a program leading to a degree in Architecture, Historic Preservation, Urban Design or Urban Planning. No previous office experience required. Experience working collaboratively in a project team environment with planning scale and site plan scale projects is highly desired. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have expert knowledge of GIS/ArcView and Office Suite software. Experience with design software such as Google SketchUp Pro, Adobe Creative Suite software, AutoCAD or other design software is desirable.
