Neighborhood Preservation Center

Located in the historic Ernest Flagg Rectory at St. Mark’s Church In-the-Bowery in the East Village, the Neighborhood Preservation Center offers public meeting rooms, incubator office spaces, an online Resource Referral Database, and an on-site library collection. The Neighborhood Preservation Center is a project of the St. Mark’s Historic Landmark Fund, a not-for-profit. The Center is a collaborative effort of the Landmark Fund, the Historic Districts Council and the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, each a resident at the Center. The Center has two meeting rooms on the ground floor adjoining its reception/research room for weekday, weekend, and evening use by groups working toward the preservation and improvement of the urban environment. Incubator office and work spaces are located at the basement level.

The Center seeks an organized and detailoriented individual who enjoys interacting with the public for the following range of responsibilities:

Manage front desk and guest reception. Welcome people into the building and direct them to their assigned meeting room or office, answer phone and email inquiries in a professional manner, manage a virtual organization mail-drop, and close and secure the Center each evening.

Assist with needs of meeting room and in-house groups. Help with any equipment set-up and IT issues that might occur, provide support and answers to general requests, and assure that the groups fully clean up once a meeting session is completed.

Assist in the management of the Centers meeting program. Scheduling of the meeting rooms, including related coordination and logistical support.

Assist in the maintenance of historic Ernest Flagg Rectory. Assist in overseeing the regular maintenance of the buildings interior and associated exterior spaces, working with cleaning and other service contractors includes the tracking and ordering of supplies.

Other responsibilities. Provide general administrative support and assist with tasks such as computer entry, filing, and research inquiries.   

Qualifications. Much of the work entails communication, collaboration, and problemsolving. Good people skills, writing and computer skills (our office uses PCs, working in Microsoft Office 7 & 8 and FileMaker Pro), ability to juggle multiple tasks, and maintain flexibility are key.  Knowledge of general building maintenance is a plus. Ability to communicate in Spanish is preferred.


Hours. Monday Thursday 4:30-9pm and Friday 4:30-6:30pm. Occasional later evenings and weekend hours may occur.
