Historic Ketchikan, Inc.

Ketchikan sprang to life in the late 1800s spurred by the discovery of gold and the development of the fishing and lumber industries. The town’s founders decided that Ketchikan would be “built to last” and many masonry buildings and handsome wood commercial and residential buildings were constructed in the first decades of the 20th century. Our heritage includes four historic districts, a wealth of handsome commercial buildings, many early wood residences, wood staircases and boardwalks, and a world class, active waterfront. Ketchikan is also a destination for visitors from around the world including domestic travelers and visitors from Alaska. Historic Ketchikan, Inc. is a 501c3 non-profit organization formed in 1991 to promote Ketchikan’s economy through historic preservation and heritage tourism. Historic Ketchikan has provided comprehensive downtown revitalization services since its beginning and has assisted over 150 property owners with design services. The Executive Director reports to the Historic Ketchikan Board of Directors and works in a collaborative team environment with other professionals. He/She coordinates a range of historic preservation, planning, education and marketing activities. He/she is responsible for the development and implementation of key Historic Ketchikan projects and provides hands-on technical assistance to property owners and local government.
