$28,000 - $32,000

Provide project management & technical expertise in the implementation of long range city planning documents, offer assistance to applicants and the public, and perform staff technical review & reports.  The planner will provide overall direction, development and supervision of long range planning for the City; creaate planning documents & reports to support department initiatives; administer an active grant program and seek additional funding opportunities for the City or general public; assist with development plan review & permitting; impartially advocating the benefits to the community of planning & zoning; coordinate activities & plans between City departments, and sustain Madison's Certified Local Government (CLG) status.

Qualifications:  Professional experience of three (3) years working in the field as a historic preservation planner or a degree in historic preservation, architectural history, architecture, urban planning or related field is required.  Must have knowledge of the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties; experience with design review in local historic districts is preferred.  Public speaking & ability to work well with others is essential.  Salary is commensurate with education & experience.
