Fraunces Tavern Museum

Fraunces Tavern Museumís mission is to educate the public and create genuine appreciation for New York City history as it relates to Colonial America, the Revolutionary War, and the Early Republic; this mission is fulfilled through the preservation of its collection and interpretation of the institutionís landmarked 1719 building along with varied exhibitions of art and artifacts as they relate to the historic site and the American Revolution.

Assistant Facilities & Historic Preservation Managerwill assist the Executive Director in matters affecting historic preservation and general buildings maintenance.† This position will support the efforts to preserve and promote the overall historic character of Fraunces Tavern and the adjoining four buildings of the Fraunces Tavern complex.† This position will serve as a representative of organization to the City and other agencies engaged in historic building protection. This position will provide overall buildings administration for the five building complex.† There is opportunity for growth.

The SRNY is a non-profit hereditary society formed in 1876.† It is dedicated to preserving and educating about the history of the American Revolutionary War.† SRNY founded Fraunces Tavernģ Museum and continues today as the Museums parent organization.† The SRNY has approximately 800 members.† The Museum sees over 25,000 annual visitors and is open seven days a week from 12-5.

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

1.††††† Establish and maintain a program for the monitoring of the buildings. Ensuring maintenance and upkeep is properly conducted

2.††††† Evaluating, making decisions and recommendations to the Executive Director and occasionally the Board of Mangers on building improvements.

3.†††† In association with the Chair of the Real Estate Committee, assist in selecting appropriate consulting engineers, architects, general contractors and trade companies to manage projects and maintenance work.†

4.††††† Making sure all projects meet the criteria set forth by the Landmarks Preservation Commission (LPC).

5.††††† Oversee and coordinate contractors, including coordination with tenants

6.††††† Negotiate contracts and agreements. Including, renewing and investigate options for the following maintenance contracts: elevators, HVAC, and fire extinguishers.

7.††††† Maintain the shop in a neat and orderly fashion, including usability.† Always keeping the safety of staff and visitors a priority.

8.††††† Assist in the fabrication of exhibit structures.

9.††††† Ensure the timely inspections and maintenance of the following: fire extinguishers, HVAC systems, fire suppression, boiler, elevators, fire detection system, boiler, hot water heaters and fire doors.

10.Handle and resolve all violations received by the organization.

11.Interior and minor exterior painting.† General building upkeep, with a focus in the areas of plaster and woodworking.

12.Manage and participate in the development and administration of the Facilities & Preservation budget; forecast the funds needed for staffing, equipment materials, and supplies; monitor expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary; prepare and present budget recommendations year to year

13.Serve as liaison to other groups and present historical preservation interests of the SRNY to external bodies such as the Chamber of Commerce, Civic Clubs and other organizations

14.Study books, documents, and other materials to discern the history of the site/structure; perform research as necessary on site/structure to obtain historical information; document history for use in presentations, tours, and brochures.

15.Promote the historical preservation within the Fraunces Tavern complex, including but not limited to public preservation programming in cooperation with the Director of Education and Public Programs.

General supervision is provided by the Executive Director. Must have and undergradute degree and/or 2-5 years of relavent experience. Knowledge of carpentry and general early American historic structures a plus.†
