Opened to the public in 1991, the American Independence Museum includes the 1721 Ladd-Gilman House, a National Landmark property, and the Folsom Tavern, built in 1775. The museum chronicles the pivotal role of the Town of Exeter and the Ladd and Gilman families in the nationís founding, as well as the origins of the NH Society of the Cincinnati. The museum's permanent collection of documents includes an original Dunlap Broadside of the Declaration of Independence and early drafts of the U.S. Constitution.

The American Independence Museum in Exeter, NH seeks a Graduate-level intern to deepen the research of the museums collection.This year the museum is looking to create a one year exhibit focusing on an aspect of the American Revolution that will highlight the museums collection.Reporting to the Executive Director and Operations Manager, interns will be responsible for exhibit planning, research, gathering objects, writing labels, and installation of the exhibit.Interns will also have a chance to take part in other aspects of Curatorial and Collections Management, including working with Past Perfect, cataloguing, exhibit monitoring, inventorying, and more.A minimum of 200 hours should be completed between mid-January and May, 2017.Schedule must be predetermined and correspond with the museums off-season hours. Some work may be completed off-site.

Qualifications

Intern should be in the process of completing or recently completed their Masters degree in history, museum studies or related subject. Strong interpersonal skills, detail-orientated, and excellent time management skills are needed.Prior exhibit installation experience is not required.Although the position is unpaid, this is an exciting opportunity to be involved in a Museum in transition and can be completed for course credit.
