The Countywide Planning Division of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Prince George's County Planning Department is seeking a Senior Planner in its Historic Preservation Section. At this time, the position is located in the County Administration Building in Upper Marlboro.

The Historic Preservation Section (HPS) is responsible for the implementation of the Prince George's County Historic Preservation Program and provides technical support to the County-appointed Prince George's County Historic Preservation Commission and the Prince George's County Planning Board through the County's Historic Preservation Ordinance (Subtitle 29 of the Prince George's County Code).

The Historic Preservation Section reviews a range of applications affecting historic resources identified in the County's Historic Sites and Districts Plan and its Inventory of Historic Resources. HPS staff also conducts property research and documentation to State of Maryland and federal standards, administers historic property grants and preservation tax credit programs, and provides technical support and outreach to other areas of the Prince George's County Planning Department, the Prince George's County Planning Board, and to the public.

The duties of this position are highly technical and focus on all aspects of the documentation of historic properties to established state and federal standards, the implementation of an anticipated non-capital grant program, the review of Historic Area Work Permits and Preservation Tax Credit applications impacting designated historic resources and historic districts. This position also provides assistance with the review and analysis of development applications impacting historic resources and provides information to the stakeholders and the public on all aspects of the Prince George's County Historic Preservation Program.

Preferred qualifications include: Master's Degree in historic preservation, architectural history, history, or related field; excellent organizational, research, writing, and communication skills as well as a desire to work extensively with internal and external program stakeholders; familiarity with the State of Maryland and National Park Service (National Register) documentation standards.


Master's Degree in planning, architecture, parks, engineering, environmental science, or
equivalent disciplines related to job function and one (1) year of progressively responsible professional level planning experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
