Louis Berger solicits applications for the position of Architectural Historian in our Washington DC location.

 The successful candidate will have the following:

  • M.S or higher in Architectural History or Historic Preservation.
  • Candidates must have 4-8 years of professional experience in field survey and National Register evaluation of architectural resources preferably in the context of regulatory compliance.
  • Must have specific experience working in Mid-Atlantic States, the upper South, and the Northeast, including conducting surveys, preparing Determinations of Eligibility, and assessments of effect.
  • Must have experience in working with Section 106 and 4(f) and have had direct contact with SHPOs.
  • An understanding of building fabric and the ability to read historic structures is crucial to this position.
  • Must have experience in report writing and are expected to have strong, clear, and concise writing skills.
  • The applicant must be flexible and feel at ease investigating out of the ordinary building types with experience in the interpretation and evaluation of infrastructure, energy, engineering/industrial and military resources.
  • Applicants must have demonstrated ability to meet budget and schedule requirements.
  • Ability to travel for extended periods is a must.
  • Experience working in New Jersey, DC and with the military a plus. 
  • Needs to able to work independently, yet be willing to take direction.
  • Must be capable or working in a fast paced environment.
