The historic Fox Theatre is one of Atlanta’s premiere venues for live entertainment. The Fox’s 4,665-seat theatre is booked more than 200 performances a year ranging from Broadway to rock to comedy to movies. Private events such as weddings, receptions, corporate events, proms and other gatherings are hosted in the Grand Salon and Egyptian Ballroom. The Fox is located on Peachtree Street in the middle of the city and is on the National Historic Register. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization, the Fox Theatre stands today as a fiercely protected landmark and a nationally acclaimed theatre.

The Preservation Technician supports the Preservation Foreman in maintaining the historic finishes of the Fox Theatre in order to preserve the 1929 appearance of the building and its collections.  Duties include assisting Preservation Foreman in the physical preservation of painted surfaces at the Fox Theatre and performing additional non-preservation related painting duties as required. Additional duties include assisting Preservation Foreman in documentation of preservation projects.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Assist Preservation Foreman in the physical preservation of painted surfaces at the Fox Theatre.
  • Perform additional non-preservation related painting duties as required.
  • Assist Preservation Foreman in determining best practices based on the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
  • Provide recommendations and support for the ongoing documentation of finishes and plaster work.
Qualifications:
Candidate must have the following skills:
  • Experience with flat and decorative plaster repair.
  • Experience with decorative painting including gilding, stenciling, glazes and color matching, and patching plaster and wood surfaces.
  • Experience building scaffold.
  • Experience with straight painting.
  • Project documentation.
  • Ability to accomplish thorough research on any item listed above.
